"Think Outside the Drum" for K-12 age students

Thursday, January 16, 2020, 10:30 am at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts Sunoco Performance Theater

TCP’s “Think Outside the Drum” is a fun, interactive, and educational presentation introducing the building blocks of music (rhythm, melody, and timbre) through active participation in a series of interactive activities including clapping, singing, and a listening game. Students learn about the extraordinary range of percussion instruments that can be found in cultures around the world, as well as in their own kitchen cabinets. This program will be presented on the morning of January 16, 2020 at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts to a number of K-12 age students from Central PA schools. Market Square Concerts will collaborate on this aspect of TCP mini-residency with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra Director of Education.

RSVP is not required, but strongly encouraged.  If your group/school is planning to come as a group, please let us know how many will attend and whether you will be coming by school buses. All our Soundscape Educational Outreach Programs are FREE to the public.

This project is one of the largest contemporary American classical music events in Central PA. Its role in advocacy for contemporary music and audience development cannot be overstated. The collaboration between several organizations required to make this happen is based in a uniquely collaborative relationships which Market Square Concerts enjoys with Messiah College, Harrisburg Symphony and Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts, because of MSC directors’ affiliations with these organizations and their background as performers and educators.
